Boutique Firm Avi Oster Media Bolsters Philanthropy
NEW YORK, NY – A recent a debut in the specialty media business has been making waves, sources say – by focusing almost exclusively on not-for-profit events.
Avi Oster Media, a highly specialized media firm helmed by venture capitalist Avi Oster, was expected to be a natural extension of Oster’s investment strategy. Oster, who built his name in real estate, has helped develop a number of high-profile residential, commercial and mixed-use properties in the greater tri-state area. One he had cemented his reputation in the tried-and-true business of real estate, he turned to more risky entrepreneurial projects, notably diving into the fashion arena as the sponsor of a number of key fashion events and the backer of two lines, including designers Catherine Fulmer and Stephen Seo.
Having placed himself at the center of a significant network of creatives and rising celebrities, Oster’s next move was to branch out more collaboratively. Recently he announced going into business with hip hop legend Ne Yo, at one of Oster’s signature posh club events earlier this year. While the nature of their upcoming collaboration is still a mystery, insiders expect it to bear Oster’s usual mark: big, big, and big.
With this history of bold business leaps, Avi Oster Media was expected to be an arm of Oster’s own business machine. Instead, the firm has operated almost purely on behalf of not-for-profit charities, many unconnected to Oster’s companies. Whether the trend will continue is anyone’s guess, but it is known that Oster comes from a long line of philanthropists. Putting his media magic to use for nonprofits may be his way of giving back.
